The prospect of living in Zimbabwe is something of a risk at the moment, so you could think that there might be little affinity for patronizing Zimbabwe’s gambling halls. In fact, it appears to be working the opposite way, with the awful economic conditions leading to a greater desire to bet, to try and discover a quick win, a way from the difficulty.

For many of the locals surviving on the meager nearby money, there are 2 established forms of betting, the state lottery and Zimbet. Just as with almost everywhere else on the globe, there is a state lotto where the chances of profiting are unbelievably tiny, but then the jackpots are also surprisingly big. It’s been said by financial experts who understand the situation that many do not purchase a card with an actual expectation of profiting. Zimbet is based on one of the local or the British football leagues and involves determining the outcomes of future games.

Zimbabwe’s casinos, on the other shoe, pamper the extremely rich of the country and sightseers. Until recently, there was a extremely large sightseeing industry, based on nature trips and visits to Victoria Falls. The economic woes and connected violence have carved into this trade.

Among Zimbabwe’s casinos, there are 2 in the capital, Harare, the Carribea Bay Resort and Casino, which has 5 gaming tables and slots, and the Plumtree Casino, which has only slots. The Zambesi Valley Hotel and Entertainment Center in Kariba also has only slot machines. Mutare contains the Monclair Hotel and Casino and the Leopard Rock Hotel and Casino, the two of which have gaming tables, slots and video machines, and Victoria Falls has the Elephant Hills Hotel and Casino and the Makasa Sun Hotel and Casino, both of which offer gaming machines and tables.

In addition to Zimbabwe’s gambling halls and the previously mentioned lottery and Zimbet (which is very like a parimutuel betting system), there are a total of 2 horse racing tracks in the country: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the second metropolis) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.

Since the market has diminished by beyond 40% in the past few years and with the associated deprivation and violence that has arisen, it isn’t well-known how well the tourist business which is the foundation for Zimbabwe’s gambling dens will do in the next few years. How many of the casinos will survive till conditions improve is merely not known.
