There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which casino gaming is banned. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of most border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel building that highlights numerous comforts in addition to the casino, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
