There is a captivating background to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling hall betting is against the law. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent destination, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; still, financing sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 1700, and though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is real of most border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling den, highlights 150 slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel complex that contains numerous amenities in addition to the casino, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
