There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino wagering is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are means around this, as is true of many border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that features a number of conveniences on top of the casino, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight table games.
