There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which casino gambling is banned. Eight gambling dens are situated in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is real of most borders.
The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, highlights 150 slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that highlights a number of conveniences on top of the casino, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 table games.
