There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are allegedly required to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling den, highlights 150 slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel compound that highlights numerous luxuries accompanying the casino, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
